21 AMEC W orking Groups Battery Minerals The Battery Minerals W orking Group advises the AMEC Council and Ex ecutive on issues that may impact the Association s membership in the development of A ustralia s battery mineral mining and processing industry R eport A Lithium Battery Industry in A ustralia On 29 January 2018 a report by Future Smart S trategies commissioned by AMEC on behalf of Neometals Altura R esources Lithium A ustralia Coogee Chemicals Sinosteel and Pilbara Minerals was launched by the Minister for Mines and P etroleum the Hon Bill Johnston MLA This document identifed that by 2025 the 170b lithium value chain will grow to 2 trillion and with appropriate leadership and regulatory settings W A could engage further down the valuechain A P ath Forward In May AMEC published The P ath Forward calling for Government leadership a clear strategy investment attraction coordination and streamlining of planning approvals consideration of fnancial incentives and support for the Cooperative R esearch Centre bid Lithium and Energy Materials Industry Consortium In response to AMEC s calls for leadership the W A S tate Government organised the Lithium and Energy Materials Industry Consortium AMEC contributed to the W orking Group From this event a W estern A ustralian S trategy was developed AMEC Battery Minerals Investment Opportunities T o highlight investment opportunities in the A ustralian battery minerals sector AMEC compiled standardised information from interested companies Senator the Hon Matt Canavan Federal Minister for R esources and Northern A ustralia provided a foreword on behalf of the Federal Government The Hon Bill Johnston MLA W A Minister for Mines and P etroleum and the Hon Dan van Holst P ellekaan the S A Minister for Energy and Mines provided a foreword on behalf of W estern A ustralian and South A ustralian Governments respectively Each company with information in the document was verifed by A us T rade An electronic copy will be published in 2019 and distributed throughout the A us T rade international ofces and through the W A Government T rade Ofces P otash The P otash W orking Group did not meet in 2018 but the Brine guidelines working group continued to work with the Joint Ore R eserves Committee JORC to work through multiple drafts to reach a mutually acceptable position In September AMEC met with the Chair of JORC to discuss the fnal draft The Brine Guidelines are e xpected to be formally accepted by JORC in early 2019 AMEC would lik e to thank the work of Duncan S torey and Jef Jolly of A Q2 and Jeremy P eters of Snowden in particular This dedicated team drove the drafting process Junior Minerals Exploration Incentive This e xpert based W orking Group met several times and provided signifcant input to the design and implementation of the JMEI related legislation A SX and A SIC This wide based W orking Group continued to monitor issues surrounding Forward L ooking S tatements A SX and A SIC regulatory activities AMEC R eport 2018 AMEC has formed a number of issue specifc working groups to advise the AMEC Council and Ex ecutive on relelvant matters These W orking Groups meet on an ad hoc as required basis
