10 Improvements to workplace safety AMEC has continued to work with regulators to ensure safe workplace standards and practices This has included input to a proposed Code of Practice on mental health a Code of Practice on ventilation in underground mining operations W ork Health and Safety legislation and improved fnancial management of the Mine Safety L evy SOUTH A US TRALIA S tate Election P olicy Platform and pre budget submission These documents were focussed on lowering the cost of doing business in South A ustralia and maintaining the S tate s competitive royalty regime Mining Acts R eview AMEC is heavily involved in the most comprehensive review of South A ustralia s mining legislation since its original drafting in 1971 The legislation has been reintroduced to P arliament and AMEC is providing input to the regulations S tronger P artners S tronger Futures Forum The Government is fnalising a review of P art 9B of the Mining Act recognising that the approach to Native Title in South A ustralia is creating concerns for mineral e xploration companies and Native Title holders alik e AMEC is participating in monthly steering committees and has made submissions and representations on behalf of industry VICT ORIA Election P olicy Platform AMEC released its Election P olicy Platform ahead of the November S tate election identifying 29 achievable recommendations to increase mineral e xploration activity and reduce the cost of doing business AMEC is continuing to liase with the Victorian Government on how to support and grow its mining and mineral e xploration industry Mineral R esources S trategy AMEC contributed to the development of the new Mineral R esources S trategy and the greater emphasis on Victoria actively competing to attract investment and industry to the S tate Issues such as the e xtended delays in processing and release of prospective land areas need to be addressed to prevent industry and investors looking outside the S tate for projects L egislative Scoping Group AMEC was invited by the Minister to join an informal group of k ey stak eholders to discuss the opportunity and scope for a major reform of the Mineral R esources Sustainable Development Act 1990 Earth R esources R egulation s S tak eholder R eference Group AMEC was a member of the Earth R esources R egulation s S tak eholder R eference Group SRG which provided a forum for consultation with industry stak eholders about statutory regulatory and stak eholder relations in the conte xt of the current policy and regulatory framework Increase in fees prevented As a direct result of AMEC advocacy proposed increases in mining related fees and charges did not progress
