42 METIS NA TION Of ONT ARIO Annu A l Repo R t 20122013 m e TI s n a TI on of o n T ar I o You TH Coun CI l T he Metis Nation of Ontario Y outh Council MNOYC is part of the Metis Nation of Ontario MNO gover nance structur e with the mandate to identify issues impacting Metis youth and to work within the MNO to ensur e these issues ar e addr essed The MNOYC consists of nine r egional r epr esentatives who ar e elected in the MNO pr ovincial ballotbox elections held ever y four years MNOYC elections wer e held in conjunction with the most r ecent Pr ovisional Council of the MNO PCMNO elections on May 7 2012 In addition to the MNOYC Metis youth ar e also r epr esented by the PCMNO youth r epr esentative who holds a voting seat on the PCMNO The MNOYC and PCMNO youth r epr esentative brings forth the voices of the r egional youth r epr esentatives and local community youth r epr esentatives at the pr ovincial level Each r egion has a r egional youth r epr esentative and each MNO community council has a position for a local youth r epr esentative who pr omotes youth initiatives works dir ectly with the MNOYC and r epr esents the voice of Metis youth in his or her ar ea Participation at the community r egional and pr ovincial level enables Metis youth acr oss Ontario to have a voice and ensur es Metis youth ar e engaged in all levels of gover nance decisionmaking and policymaking both within and outside of the MNO Thr ough understanding the histor y of the Metis people and a deep com mitment to the Statement of Prime Purpose the MNOYC strives to pr epar e Metis youth to be leaders of the Metis Nation of the futur e The MNOYC is striving to fll its curr ent vacancies engage youth acr oss the pr ovince and further defne its gover nance structur e and policies and pr ocedur es Each year the MNOYC attends the MNO Annual General Assembly to bring together the r egional youth r epr esentatives for consultation and planning Gov E rn A nc E p C mno Y out h r epr esentat ive m itch Case speaking at a m et is yout h meet ing s enator Gor don bead ing wit h p C mno Y out h r epr esentat ive m itch Case
