32 METIS NA TION Of ONT ARIO Annu A l Repo R t 20122013 T im Pile lives in Thunder Bay and has ser ved as Secr etar yT r ea sur er of the PCMNO since 2001 As Secr etar yT r easur er he is chair of the Finance Committee and he also ser ves as Pr o vincial Secr etar y for Infnity Pr operty Ser vices and has some r esponsibilities for the Healing and W ellness and Education and T raining branches He was bor n in the Northwester n Ontario goldmining town of Geraldton but traces his Metis r oots to Peace River Alberta wher e his pater nal gr eatgrandmother Ida Camer on was raised Secr etar yT r easur er Pile r epr esents the MNO as a member of the Aboriginal Management Council and the Aboriginal Refer ence Gr oup for the Norther n Ontario School of Medicine NOSM at Lakehead Univer sity He has been active in supporting the one month community place ment for students which is one of the mor e unique aspects of NOSM He has helped ensur e that annual placements include two students in Metis communities This pr omotes student engagement in Metis cultur e and community health issues The students r etur n to the NOSM with gr eater knowledge and appr eciation of the Metis in Ontario The students who participate also make pr esentations to their classmates about their experience in the community raise additional awar eness of the unique cultur e of the Metis in Ontario In May of 2012 Secr etar yT r easur er Pile was r eelected with a str ong mandate S enator Reta Gor don was a founding member of the MNO and has been actively sharing Metis cultur e since 1993 She became the Senator for the MNO Ottawa Metis Council in 1999 and was elected PCMNO Executive Senator in 2002 In addition to her work as a liaison for MNO Senators Senator Gor don has over the past 17 years r epr esented the MNO at hundr eds of gatherings fr om small intimate workshops to lar ge confer ences and similar events One of the most memorable events of her car eer as Sena tor was joining then Gover nor General Michaelle Jean and the Commis sioners of the T ruth and Reconciliation Commission at Rideau Hall in 2009 for W itnessing the Futur e a poignant and emotional event that launched the work of the T ruth and Reconciliation Commission During the event Senator Gor don pr esented Gover nor General Jean with a Metis sash Ever y November 11 Senator Gor don r epr esents the MNO at Na tional Remembrance Day cer emonies in Ottawa wher e she lays a wr eath r Et A Go RD on Ex E cut I v E SE n A tor tIM pI le SEcr E t A r Y t r EAS ur E r mno s ecr etaryT r easur er Tim p ile right wit h Joseph Carrabba p r esident and C eo of Cl if f s r esour ces centr e and t he Honourable m ichael Gravel le m inister of n atural r esour ces at t he a boriginal b usiness l uncheon in Thunder b ay
