104 METIS NA TION Of ONT ARIO Annu A l Repo R t 20122013 Recent notable achievements The 2012 fscal year pr oved to be an active year for r ecruiting Some of this is due to the ver y exciting initiatives in pr ograming Other activity was due to tur nover Since Januar y 1 2013 ther e have been 19 postings and 19 new hir es Since Januar y 1 2013 thr ee determinate employees have become indeterminate employees Since Januar y 1 2013 ten Recor ds of Employment wer e issued 20 per cent of employees have been with MNO less than 1 year 43 per cent of employees have been with MNO 1 to 4 years 17 per cent of employees have been with MNO 5 to 9 years 20 per cent of employees have been with MNO 10 or mor e years Thr ough management meetings and daily workplace interactions HR has worked towar d building str on ger partnerships with inter nal stakeholders Ther e has been incr eased r ecognition of the importance of ongoing documentation and consultation with HR at the initial stages of employment matters This has led to r esolution of performance issues at the early stages consistent applications of the Policies and Pr o cedur es and meeting a high standar d of accountability and transpar ency Reaching a higher standar d of stakeholder engagement has been the gr eatest beneft to achieving mor e pr oductive and healthier work envir onments The MNO s Policy and Pr ocedur es Manual has been r evised to ensur e that the changes in Employment and Human Resour ces legislation ar e r efected in the MNO s Policy and Pr ocedur es Manual A new Performance Review and the Standar ds of Pr ofessional Conduct became ef fective for the Decem ber 2012 Reviews The annual Performance Review is based on and links dir ectly to the Standar ds of Pr ofessional Conduct which ar e r eliable and dependable competent pr oductive qualityfocused interpersonally ef fective and communicative A compr ehensive orientation training package has been initiated for all new employees and includes the Statement of Prime Purpose The Curr ent State Assessment Human Resour ces Function Mar ch 31 2011 made r ecommendations one of which was the establishment of a Senior Human Resour ces Advisor position which became ef fective Januar y 28 2013 Mar gar et Fr oh flls that function as part of her new duties as the dir ector of Strategic Policy Law and Compliance The Senior HR Advisor s r ole includes Leading the development of the MNO s new HR gover nance framework including the ongoing r eview and updating of the Policy and Pr ocedur es Manual Developing a training and development pr ogram and overseeing its deliver y Developing and overseeing the content of all orientation training Developing and delivering training and mentoring to management in their performance of delegated HR authorities Pr oviding advisor y and support ser vices to the COO Dir ectors and management on major and complex HR issues including HR planning labour r elations and harassment cases and other issues that have esca lated in sensitivity and pr ofle and need r esolution by senior management
