In 2010, the Kidd operation s spent $237 million for all goods, material and services. Of that total, 57 per cent or $136 mil - lion, was spent on regional goods and services. W ages and benefts cost $1 10.2 mil - lion and taxes to the city were $6.4 million. Community donation and sponsor - ships, including in-kind, were $335.8 thousand. Capital investments were $83.9 mil - lion and utilities (power , water , rail, etc) cost $43.4 million. Kidd Mine is ISO 14001 certifed and is the deepest base meta l mine in the world, focused on develop - ing and sustaining economic mining plans for the Kidd Creek ore body . The Kidd Metallur gical site today consists of a concentrator processing copper -zinc ore into concentrates. The Kidd Operations employs about 1,200 people, including contractors. Operations in T immins are now under commo n local management and known collectively as Xstrata Copper Kidd Operations, following the permanent closure of the copper smelter and refnery and the zinc pro - cessing plants, the indium plant and the two sulphuric acid plants in 2010. Operations at the mine and the con - centrator contin ue. Concentra tes from the mine are sent to the Horne Smelter , located in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec. This custom copper smelter uses both copper concentrates and precious- metal-bearing recyclable mat erials as its feedstock to produce a 99.1 cop - per anode. The site also operates a sulphuric acid plant. Since the closing of the Kidd copper processing plant, the Horne Smelter is the only remai ning copper smelter in Canada.
