As a key partner of the world’ s leading earthmover and mining companies, Kal Ti re’ s Mining Ti re Group is the only tire service provider capable of handling all of a customer’ s tire requirements on a global basis. As operations continue to expand, it is exciting to speculate on Kal Ti re’ s future endeavours. A Canadian success story , Kal Ti re set up shop in Ve rnon, British Columbia in 1953 and has since grown to service over 140 mine sites in 19 countries around the world. Kal Ti re credits their success to hard work and determination to meet their clients’ individual needs. Whether open pit or underground, each mine site is different and requires time to learn the specif c working conditions and challenges. Tw o constants are common across all mine sites however , regardless of their location: a focus on safety above all else and working with the customer to minimize tire operating costs and maximize productivity . It is this level of service and experience, which recently led a northern Ontario gold mine to choose Kal Ti re as its service provider . Before the contract even began, immediate service was required on three haul trucks. With two weeks’ notice, Kal Ti re mobilized a team of experienced tire technicians and the equipment necessary to get these vehicles up and running. Portable facilities developed by Kal Ti re, called Kal Kans, allow tire maintenance to begin immediately on greenf eld sites and operate independently , while a mine is building maintenance and workshop facilities. In Central America, Kal Ti re is proud of their involvement in one of the greatest engineering feats of the 21st century to date — the expansion of the Panama Canal. With a team of 28, Kal Ti re Panama is offering service, technical support and sales of earthmover tires at service points along the entire project. To Kal Ti re, the safety of team members is paramount and is expressed in their motto of “zero compromise on safety .” The Kal Ti re team in northern Norway is particularly proud of their achievement of reaching 1000 LT I (Lost Ti me Injury) free days. This achievement is even more impressive when you consider the harsh environment in which they operate. For six months of the year , the team works in continuous darkness for 21 to 24 hours per day with temperatures often falling below -30°C. Closer to home, a team in the Alberta oil sands recently celebrated an LT I-free decade. It is clear that team members from around the world are proud to be part of Kal Ti re and have embedded safety into their culture. “The Porcupine Camp” 100 Y ears of Mining Page 1
