Message fr om the Pr esident CEO Jane Pagel and CSR Executive Sponsor Robin Kind The Ontario Clean W ater Agency OCW A has pr ovided clean safe water to the people of Ontario for twenty years Y ou could say that being socially r esponsible has been a part of our cultur e fr om the very beginning Our employees ar e actively involved in their communities and ar e pr oud to r epr esent OCW A whether it s by hosting tours of the plants we operate or working and volunteering with local charities As an Ontario Agency we ar e committed to supporting our communities public health and the envir onment W e pride ourselves in choosing community initiatives that align with our vision of being a trusted world leader in water and that support our cor e values Our commitment to social r esponsibility focuses on fve key ar eas Community Support and V olunteering Education and A war eness Envir onmental Sustainability Employee Engagement and Innovation In this inaugural Corporate Social Responsibility Report we ar e pleased to highlight our achievements over the past year and ther e have been many W e ar e str engthening our commitment to social r esponsibility by participating in new initiatives and partnerships that ar e making an impact in Ontario and ar ound the world In 2012 we began our partnership with GlobalMedic a Canadian charity that pr ovides clean drinking water solutions to people in crisis ar ound the world W e raised 49263 which was used to supply water purifcation units to families in need in Somalia and Y emen OCW A employees worked alongside GlobalMedic volunteers drilling and assembling these units for shipment In 2012 we invested over 23000 to support local pr ograms in education arts and cultur e and organized sports OCW A employees also raised 44675 for healthr elated organizations and campaigns such as the T rillium Health Centr e the Federated Health Charities Campaign CIBC s Run for the Cur e and Movember benefting pr ostate cancer and men s mental health As experts in the water industry many of our social r esponsibility activities ar e focused on raising public awar eness of water r elated issues W e believe it is important to teach the next generations about the value of clean drinking water Our employees participate in childr en s water festivals host facility tours attend car eer fairs and visit schools to talk to youth about the r ole they can play in pr otecting our water sour ces In developing our strategies and business plans we consider the impact of our business on the natural envir onment W e work with our clients to fnd innovative technology solutions that will help incr ease ef fciency and r educe energy use W e r ecently r eceived funding fr om the Ontario Power Authority to perform energy audits at our clients facilities W eve also implemented a number of gr een initiatives at our of fces and r educed our paper consumption by 246 at our head of fce in T or onto Gr een design elements such as r ecycled paint and envir onmentally sustainable fooring have been incorporated at our new of fce in Mississauga The skills and motivation of our employees contribute to OCW A s overall success and we pr ovide lear ning and leadership pr ograms with a str ong emphasis on health and safety W e celebrate the many contributions of our employees thr ough r ecognition pr ograms like our annual health and safety awar d and OCW Amarine awar ds All of the accomplishments in this r eport wer e made possible thr ough the passion and pride that our employees bring to their work in the water industry Their commitment to making a r eal dif fer ence in society is inspiring we ar e pr ofoundly grateful to them and we look forwar d to the jour ney ahead 2012 Corporate Social Responsibility Report 3
