Page 52 By Frank Giorno Located approximately 160 kilome tres west of the T immins Porcupine mine Borden has the potenti al to en hance the longterm economics in T immins where its ore will be pro cessed Borden is set to be Canada s frst allelectric under ground gold mine which will be safer for Goldcorps employees and have a smaller envi ronmental footprint The Borden un der ground mine will use an electric ity and batterypowered under ground feet which is expected to eliminate all greenhouse gases associated with the movement of ore and waste rock Goldcorp is negotiating with the First Nations communities in the area and hope to sign agreements that refect its commitment to ongoing consulta tions with local First Nations I have been meeting with Goldcorp in our negotiat ions for benefts from the Borden Gold project I have insist ed we meet regularly roughly every six weeks to make steady progress W e hope to reach an agreeme nt soon which will need ratifcation from membership said Keeter Corston Chief of the Chapleau CreeFox Lake Goldcorp s Borden Lake Eyeing 2019 Startup First Nation in the Septembe r news letter Chapleau Cree is one of two First Nations in the Borden Lake area the other being the Brunswick House First Nation Borden is a key part of Goldcorp s plan to increase production by 20 by 2021 The company expec ts to be gin commercial production in 2019 Key developme nt milestones achieved at Borden Lake so far include Advanced exploration permits re ceived July 2017 Ramp development surface prepa ration power installed in progress Mine development expected in Q4 2018 Extraction of 30000 tonne bulk sample expected in Q4 2018 Commercial production expected in 2019 Exploration Continues The Borden deposit is a new style of mineralization in the underexplored Borden Lake belt Goldcorp has a lar ge consolidated claim package ex tending to a thousand square kilome tres Since the Chapleau area has no min ing history there very little geological data available about the area Gold corp s primary exploration focus is to better understand the geology of the area and identi fy future gold deposits Other exploration goals include Continuing to develop the geological model of the deposit T esting the extensions of the deposit Evaluating the 1000square kilometre land package to develop a portfolio of tar gets for ongoing evalu ation Borden Lake poses some unique chal lenges for Goldcorp who purchased the clai m from Probe Mines in 2015 For example in the spring and sum mer of 2016 drilling at the location stopped from May as part of an agree ment with local cottagers to minimize noise during the summer cotta ge peri od Drilling from May to October was limited to the Borden North tar get lo cated away from the lake Drilling resumed in October at Bor den W est testing extensions to known mineralization after a drilling hiatus The goal of the Borden W est program was to test the westward continuation Contd on pg 53 Page 52
