M A Y 2 8 & 2 9 201 4 Sudbury will be the location in 2014 for the International Nickel T rade Show . “Sudbury is the world’ s nickel capi - tal,” Glenn Dredhart said. “It is the logical choice for hosting the Interna - tional Nickel T rade Show - sure to be one of the lar gest mining shows deal - ing with nickel mining.” Dredhart is the president of T immins- based Canadian T rade-Ex, known as one of the premier or ganizers of trade shows in Ontario. Its annual Mining Expo in T immins is regarded as the lar gest gold mining shows in Canada. Last year over 400 companies participated in the show . Sudbury has been at the centre of nickel production for over 100 years. The city has experience and tech - nical know-how to share with the world. The current value of mining investment in Sudbury confrmed or planned over the next fve years to - tals $6.3 Billio n. This include s capital projects by V ale, Xstrata, and KGHM International Ltd., formerly Quadra FNX. Additional investments will be gener - ated by the growing supply and ser - vice sector and non-mining business - es that serve the mining industry and its employees. In June 2012, another addition to Sudbury’ s mining commun ity was announced when Clif fs Natural Re - sources selecte d Capreol as the loca - tion of its refnery to process chromite from the Ring of Fire Area in North - western, Ontario. The International T rade Show will bring together the lar gest assembly of nickel mining companies, mining supply and services companies and equipment manufacturers. The McClella nd Communit y Cen - tre in Copper Clif f Ontario was the choice location to host the event given the lar ge indoor and outdoor space required for the many dis - plays, information booths and dem - onstrations. Sudbury will host the event May 28th and 29th in 2014. “W ith the enthusiasm showed by Sud bury , the nickel industry , the business sector and the service and supply industry , I feel strongly that the Internation al Nickel Show will be Canada’ s lar gest nickel show ,” Dredhart said. In addition to or ganizing trade shows, Cana - dian T rade-Ex also publishes Mining Life and Explora - tion News, a quarterly publication which pro - vides in-depth coverage of Canada’ s mining in - dustry . Dur - ing the sum - mer of 2012 it launched its online mining portal which will soon pro - vide daily up - dates of key events and developments in Canada’ s mining sector . The City of Greater Sudbury has a population of 160,274 and was cre - ated in 2001 with the mer ger of the cities and towns in the former Re - gional Municipality of Sudbury . It is the lar gest city in Northern Ontario by population and the 24th lar gest in Canada. Sudbury is one of the lar gest mining hubs in the world, it has become a cen - tre of learning boasting Laurentian Uni - versity , the Northern Ontario School of Medicine, Cambrian College and Col - lege Boreal.
