The story of the W aterous division of the Power Systems business unit began in the 1840’ s when a merchant named Philip C. V an Brocklin established a small foundry on Dalhousie Street in Brantford, Ontario. V an Brocklin produced an assortment of products ranging from agricultural plows to household stoves, freplace irons and andirons. Charles H. W aterous joined V an Brocklin’ s business in 1848. Charles was a risk-taking entrepreneur who had suffered through the demise of numerous business projects. As a result, he wanted something more stable and agreed to run V an Brocklin’ s Brantford facility , called Brantford Engine W orks.
