W e at Canadian Mining Life and Exploration News realize that concise, accurate and up to date infor - mation is vital to today’ s mining industry . W e do our best at all times and use the most mod - ern equipment and resources to create a product by working with tight deadlines and reliable contacts. Messages can be delivered these days in many ways and this year Mining Life will be a presence at the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada’ s annual convention in T oronto. This edi - tion of our magazine is highli ghting the gold sector in Northeastern Ontario where several old mines and several new mines exist. And many more will be coming on stream. It is an area where billion dollar developments, Detour Gold’ s Detour Lake Mine and IAM Gold’ s Cote Lake Mine, are proof that investors have faith in the region. W e share that faith. T immins Mayor T om Laughren in this edition not only talks for the Porcupine Gold Camp when he talks mining but for all the other gold camps in the Abitibi Greenstone Belt, Kirkland Lake, Matheson, Matachewan and Larder Lake. The political leaders of the communities dependent upon the gold mining industry frmly believe that they have glorious pasts and bright futures. They are committed to improving the lives of their residents and sharing with their Aboriginal neigh - bours. Every resident of the gold mining camps believes that cooperatio n, dedication and hard work is the key to economic success. W e accept that truth. Every miner working under ground or in an open pit is backed up by the company’ s engineering, tech - nical and front offce staf f. Behind every mining company is the supply and service sector . It is an important element to turning an ore deposit into a wealth-generating endeavour . W e understand that. Mining cannot survive without federal, provincial and territorial governments that encourage it and understand the important contribution the industry makes to the Canadian economy . W e applaud them. At the PDAC convention we will be pleased to talk mining with the over 25,000 delegates expected from all corners of the world.
