Since Brigus took ownership of the Black Fox Complex in June 2010, the company has strived to make the necessary improvements to support increased production and ore grade control. The Black Fox property has also prov - en to be a source for new gold discov - eries. The 147 and Contact Zones are located four kilometres southeast of the operating Black Fox Mine and hosts more than 50 per cent of the re - source on the Black Fox Complex. On Jan. 9, the company reported re - sults from its ongoing drill ing pro - gram at the 147 Zone on its Grey Fox property include high grade intercepts of 14 grams per tonne over 35 metres and 4.7 grams over 29 metres. Brigus senior vice president explora - tion Howard Bird said “these impres - sive drill hole intercepts are among the best returned from the 147 Zone. These results extend the ore body to a true vertical depth of 300 metres be - low surface and most importa ntly the zone remains open for further expan - sion.” In conjunction with increased pro - duction levels and ongoing explora - tion, the company has successfully completed an initial expansion of the Black Fox mill. The expansion increased the process - ing capacity at the mill by 10% to 2,200 tonnes per day through opti - mization of existing mill equipment, adding leach tank capacity , and elimi - nation of production losses. The Black Fox mine and mil l are lo - cated in the T ownship of Blac k River - Matheson. The mine is approximately 75 kilom etres (km) east of the City of T immins and 1 1 km east of the com - munity of Matheson. The mill is located approximately 31 km west of the mine, of f Highway 101. The company’ s key asset is the Black Fox Complex, comprising the Black Fox Gold Mine and mill and its Grey Fox property . Capital costs for 2013 are forecast as follows; $16 million (M) for under - ground development, $13M for open pit capital stripping and overburden removal, $20M for property plant, equipment and other capital items, and $10.5M for Grey Fox and Black Fox under ground exploration. Capital costs for the development of the Grey Fox mine will be outlined in the feasibility study scheduled to be relea sed during the second half of 2013. On Jan.7, Brigus announced record production levels of 22,672 gold ounces in the fourth quarter of 2012. The company fnished the year within the guidance set on Feb. 21, 2012 of 77,000 – 85,000 ounces with a total of 77,374 ounces. “W e fnished the year in a very strong position and are well poised for growth heading into the new year ,” said W ade Dawe, Brigus chairman and CEO. “Gold production increase d each quarter in 2012, a trend that will con - tinue into 2013 as we reach annual steady state production levels.” The Black Fox mill processed 185,727 tonnes of ore at an average grade of 4.04 grams of gold per tonne and an average recove ry of 94 per cent in the quarter . Throughput averaged 2,019 tonnes per day . In 2013, Brigus will fund Black Fox and Grey Fox operations with inter - nally generated cash fows. Mining operations will continue to be proft - able and cash fow positive as gold production increases. On Oct. 30, 2012, Brigus announced it had completed the previously an - nounced $30 million bought deal debt fnancing. The fnancing was arranged by Casimir Capital for a fnance struc - ture fee of 2.77 per cent. The $30 million in senior secured debt notes were secured by a lien against the company’ s Black Fox Complex and the Goldfelds properties with a three year term. Brigus controls a total contiguous land package of 18 sq. km of the mine and adjoining Grey Fox-Pike River project. This strategic land package includes 6.5 km of strike of the well-known Destor -Porcupine Fault Zone (DPFZ). The DPFZ is a major east-west trend - ing, fault system of the Pre-Cambrian Abitibi Greenstone Belt and together with its numerous splays are associ - ated with many past and current pro - ducing gold mines of the T immins Gold District. That is a fact that the mine’ s present owner , Goldcorp Inc., and the com - munity take great pride in. The mine began production in 1910 and Goldcorp expects to be a major employer in T immins for many more decades. Goldcorp, a leading senior gold pro - ducer operating on three continents, has plac ed its holdings in the Porcu - pine Gold Camp in a subsidiary . Porcupine Gold Mines (Porcupine) consists of two distinct mining opera - tions, Hoyle Pond Under ground and Dome Under ground. As well, there are several lar ge tonnage stockpiles, and a central milling facility . The former famous Hollinger Gold Mine, (1910-1968) will resume life sometime this year after all necessary approvals have been obtained. “These assets, combined with our world-class mill serve to ensure a sustainable future for our employees, their families and our community ,” the company says. In 2012, Goldcorp produced 2.39 million ounces of gold, with Porcu - pine contributing 262,800 ounces of that total. W ith over 800 employees, including contractors, Porcupine is a major employer in T immins. T immins Mayor T om Laughren stresses that the perception that mines are short term operations is wrong. “Every day that the Dome operates reminds us that no one knows how much gold exists in and around T im - mins. Mining is an industry that led to the crea tion of T immins and in 2012 we celebrated our 100th anniversary , disproving the theory that gold min - ing communities are inherently un - stable economically . T immins has a rich past and a bright future based on natural resources.” The mayor said the multi-mil lion dol - lar expansion of the Hoyle Pond op - eration has lengthened its life to 13 years and on-going exploration could extend that estimate. Goldcorp president and CEO Chuck Jeannes said on Jan. 7 that “at Por - cupine, gold production in 2013 is expected to be between 270,000 and 280,000 ounces. The Hoyle Pond Deep project continued to advance to access both depth extensions of cur - rent ore bodies and newly-discovered zones and to enhance fexibility and effciencies throughout the opera - tion.” He added that “progress is steadily advancing on a deep under ground shaft (winze) that will provide in - creased access to recently discovered zones such as the TVZ and V AZ in the under ground Hoyle Pond mine operation and signifcantly extend the mine’ s productive life. Successful exploration drilling at Hoyle Pond has demonstrated im - proving gold grades and the extension of several gold structures at depth. This success is spurring new invest - ments in mine development to posi - tion the revitalized Porcupine mine complex for long-term success.” In the past, the company has said Hoyle Pond contains some of the highest grade of gold ore ever found in the Porcupine Camp. Goldcorp is a leading senior gold pro - ducer with low cost operations and development projects located in polit - ically stable jurisdictions throughout North, Central and South America. It strives to deliver sustainable prosper - ity to its stake¬holders and remains frmly focused on the elements that continue to drive its success: industry leading growth, low cost production, maintaining an outstanding balance sheet, developing operations in low- risk jurisdictions and a commitment to sustainability . The company has 12 operatio ns, pro - ducing gold, silver , copper , lead and zinc, and six development projects.
