Message fr om the Pr esident CEO Jane Pagel Ontario Clean W ater Agency 2012 Annual Report 5 OCW A has had a r eally exciting year in 2012 and Im pleased to shar e some of the highlights with you in our annual r eport W e continued to build upon our positive momentum in 2012 successfully accomplishing the majority of our business plan objectives and making sustained pr ogr ess towar d achieving our vision and longterm goals W e have r estructur ed the agency and r ealigned our Executive Management T eam to str engthen our focus on achieving our strategic priorities and building upon our operational str engths I am confdent that with this r einvigorated team in place we will achieve our vision to be a trusted world leader in water One of our gr eatest achievements this year is our safety r ecor d OCW A had only one Lost T ime Injury in 2012 compar ed to 9 in 2011 Keeping our people safe and healthy is fundamental for the Agency particularly given the unique and sometimes challenging work envir onments for fr ontline staf f W e continue to work diligently to pr omote our safetyfrst cultur e to our staf f and everyone that we work with It s so important that it s the frst topic at almost every staf f meeting Im extr emely pr oud that OCW A has joined a number of pr ominent safetyconscious Canadian organizations this year by signing the Senior Executive Health and Safety Leadership Charter a national initiative which demonstrates the Executive Management T eam s commitment to the health and safety of OCW A employees 2012 was a successful year for OCW A fr om a fnancial perspective as well Our r evenue fr om operations this past year surpassed the 150 million plateau for the frst time in our history In addition we wer e successful in r etaining 947 of the contracts up for r enewal in 2012 As our Chair Michael Garr ett mentioned we wer e successful in winning two sizable longterm operating contracts in southwester n Ontario with a combined lifetime value of mor e than 110 million As part of our commitment to support the Pr ovince of Ontario s goal to become a North American leader in developing water technologies we made our expertise available globally this past year and connected our clients with innovative new companies and technologies W e piloted or demonstrated a number of new technologies or pr ocesses at our facilities in 2012 and continued to cultivate strategic partnerships in the global water community Y ou can r ead about a few of these collaborative pr ojects in the pages that follow In December we hosted our second annual T echnology Showcase The event which intr oduced key decision makers to companies with new or innovative technologies was a tr emendous success with double the number of attendees and exhibitors that attended in 2011 Looking ahead we r emain committed to continuing to expand our service of ferings drive longterm gr owth and deliver on our mission to demonstrate service excellence thr ough the delivery of safe r eliable and costef fective clean water services As part of this commitment we continue to r evitalize our business pr ocesses information technology systems and operational tools to further enhance our operational capabilities As a str ong supporter of the communities wher e our employees live and work we continue to contribute thr ough sponsorships volunteerism and other Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives My personal thanks to all of our employees for the pride they take in serving our clients for their swift expert r esponse to emergency situations when they arise and for their gener ous community involvement Thanks also to our Boar d of Dir ectors for their valued guidance and insight in overseeing our business Finally thanks of course to our clients thr oughout the pr ovince for continuing to place their trust in OCW A W e take this r esponsibility very seriously and will continue to strive to exceed your expectations in the years ahead Jane Pagel
