Message fr om the Chair Michael Garr ett 4 Ontario Clean W ater Agency 2012 Annual Report 2012 was a milestone year for the Ontario Clean W ater Agency OCW A one in which the Agency continued to demonstrate its leadership in the water and wastewater industry This past year we focused on gr owing our business thr ough new sales and developing strategic partnerships with stakeholders in Ontario and ar ound the globe to support new technologies and facilitate innovation W e also began the pr ocess of upgrading our IT tools and r efning our business pr ocesses to incr ease ef fciency and position us for futur e gr owth and expansion One of the most signifcant achievements of the last year was the signing of two contracts to operate large water systems in southwester n Ontario One contract was for the operation of the Lake Hur on and Elgin Ar ea Primary W ater Supply Systems which pr ovide clean water to mor e than 500000 people in 14 communities The other was a landmark 20year agr eement for the operation of the Lambton Ar ea W ater Supply System LA WSS which serves mor e than 100000 r esidents Combined these contracts r epr esent appr oximately 1025M in additional annual r evenue which when combined with r evenue fr om contracts successfully r enewed in 2012 positions the Agency well for the futur e The Agency continued to expand its geographic scope and infuence this past year by establishing formal r elationships with organizations whose expertise complements OCW A s cor e business of operations and maintenance These partners such as Mekor ot Israel s national water company and USbased Global W ater Resour ces ar e helping to enhance OCW A s r eputation in North America and ar ound the world Y ou will r ead mor e about these exciting partnerships in the following pages W e also worked to enhance the Agency s operational tools and IT systems thr ough the implementation of the OCW A T ools Evolution Pr ogram OTEP This pr ogram which the Boar d continues to actively monitor and support will help to ensur e the Agency s longterm sustainability by incr easing OCW A s competitiveness and ability to pr ovide superior service to our clients It will also enable us to pursue futur e business opportunities such as energy management In addition to the business priorities outlined above OCW A continued to str engthen its corporate gover nance practices in 2012 Based on the r ecommendations included in the Report of the Commission on the Reform of Ontario s Public Services also known as the Drummond r eport OCW A has been working with the Ministry of the Envir onment to further enhance our gover nance structur e On behalf of the Boar d I would like to r ecognize Jane Pagel the Agency s Pr esident and Chief Executive Of fcer and her Executive Management T eam for their exemplary leadership and support as we work together to fulfll the Agency s mandate W e also of fer our most sincer e thanks to OCW A s dedicated and knowledgeable employees acr oss the pr ovince who work to ensur e our clients and the people they r epr esent have access to safe clean drinking water and ef fcient r esponsible wastewater services W orking together we will make sur e that OCW A becomes even mor e trusted and successful Michael Garr ett
