Meeting Accr editation Requir ements The Safe Drinking W ater Act 2002 r equir es all municipal r esidential systems in Ontario to be licensed under the Municipal Drinking W ater Licensing Pr ogram OCW A is working to help our clients meet the r equir ements of the pr ogram At the end of 2012 146 OCW Aoperated water facilities had submitted license applications and appr oximately 966 of OCW Aoperated water facilities achieved Limited Scope Accr editation OCW A s Operations Challenge T eams The Operations Challenge showcases the diverse skills r equir ed for the operation and maintenance of wastewater tr eatment facilities their collection systems and laboratories OCW A was well r epr esented once again at the annual W ater Envir onment Association of Ontario Operations Challenge T wo OCW A teams the OCW A Jets and OCW A Flangetastic Four competed in the event The OCW A Jets took frst place for the second consecutive year and the Flangetastic Four fnished thir d overall The teams also competed at the 97th Annual Confer ence and Exposition Operations Challenge Event hosted by the New Jersey W ater Envir onment Association in Atlantic City Both teams deliver ed outstanding performances The OCW A Jets captur ed frst place in the safety and maintenance and pr ocess events which helped them secur e a frst overall fnish in Division 2 The OCW A Flangetastic Four placed thir d overall after winning thir d place in the safety and maintenance and pr ocess events The OCW A Jets then competed against 28 participating teams fr om acr oss North America at the 85th W ater Envir onment Federation s Annual T echnical Exhibition and Confer ence in New Orleans The team ear ned four tr ophies including second place overall in Division 2 second place in the laboratory event second place in the pump maintenance event and a spirit awar d voted by the other competing teams 16 Ontario Clean W ater Agency 2012 Annual Report Operational Highlights OCW A Jets team members fr om left to right Mar cel Misuraca Carly McLennan coach Dennis Rau T om Nicol and Al Robdrup Inspections W ater system inspections ar e conducted by the MOE s W ater and Operations divisions and the Health Pr otection and Pr omotion division of the Ministry of Health and LongT erm Car e OCW A tracks Pr ovincial Of fcer Or ders issued by the r egulator as an indicator of operational performance In 2012 the MOE conducted 217 inspections at OCW Aoperated facilities and no or ders wer e issued The Agency achieved an average inspection rating of 9809 for 2012 and 636 of inspections achieved a rating of 100 Operational Performance OCW A continuously monitors key industry performance indicators to help assess our operational performance and identify potential ar eas for impr ovement such as infrastructur e W e track all tracking r eportable incidents including adverse water quality boil water advisories ef fuent criteria and bypasses at wastewater facilities Adverse W ater Quality Incidents Adverse W ater Quality Incidents A WQIs occur when drinking water quality tests do not meet the standar d established by the pr ovincial r egulator for micr obiological chemical radiological and physical water quality In 2012 ther e was a 478 r eduction in A WQIs in operated facilities compar ed to 2011 Micr obiological chemical and physical A WQIs decr eased by 478 255 and 884 r espectively over 2011 Adverse W ater Quality Events at OCW A Operated Facilities Physical 49 Micr obiological 65 Chemical 59 Radiological 0
