These values for curr en t-carrying capacity ar e based on a copper temperatur e of 60°C (140°F), an ambient temperatur e of 40°C (104°F) and yield load factors of fr om appr oximately 32% for the No. 2 A WG cable to appr oximately 23% for the No. 3/0 A WG cable, and higher for the smaller sizes. The sizes of cables generally used range fr om No. 2 A WG to No. 3/0 A WG. In actual service, the load factor may be much higher than indicated without overheating the cable as the ambient temperatur e will generally be substantially lower than 40°C.
