These come under a variety of standar ds, some of which ar e set out below . It is obviously crucial to know what standar d/style the thr ead or attachment is so the appr opriate fluid connector components can be selected to complete or r epair a cir cuit. For easy identification ther e ar e four main points to look for . 1. The general appearance of the fitting, or how it is laid out. Is the thr ead taper ed or straight? Is the seat concave or convex? Obviously the complementary or matching fitting will be an opposite of the other . 2. The pitch of the thr ead. Some thr ead styles look v e r y s i m i l i a r t o e a c h o t h e r , o n l y t h e t h r e a d p i t c h dif fers. This is an important check to make, as if the incorr ect fitting is scr ewed in, damage to the other thr ead may occur , weakening it or causing irr eparable damage. 3. The angle of the sealing ar ea. As above, some styles will look very much alike. Some even have the same thr ead dimension and pitch, but the seal angle is dif fer ent. This is an important thing to check as the sealing of the connection is r eliant on this ar ea. 4. The thr ead diameter or the size of the connection. The tables of sizes for the various styles will have a dimension as per the standar d. Often thr eads will not match this dimension exactly as ther e ar e matching tolerances, but the corr ect size will be obvious. 5. Pr essur es indicated ar e r elative to the appr opriate standar d for the thr ead indicated. Ther e ar e two parts to any connection and the pr essur e can only be as good as the weaker one. Any hose, tube or other item in the cir cuit which is one of a lower working pr essur e will dictate the maximum pr essur e of the cir cuit. With these points in mind, and by following the steps, the corr ect style and standar d will be eas - ily determined. But be car eful, by missing one you may get it wr ong.
