S e c t i o n 1 5 - P a g e 7 May 2013 POL Y -BORE TM Bor ehole Stabilizing Dry Polymer Description POL Y -BORE is a fr ee fowing, water -soluble, easy mixing, 100dry granular polymer . POL Y -BORE is a very high molecular weight partially hydr olyzed polyacrylamide (PHP A) polymer . When mixed with fr esh water , a small quantity of POL Y -BORE pr ovides a clear , solid-fr ee, viscous bor ehole stabilizing fuid for use in drilled shaft, auger drilling, horizontal dir ectional boring, tr enching excavation and r everse cir culation (RC) r otary drilling. POL Y -BORE is not designed to be used in conjunction with bentonite based fuids. Applications/Functions • Pr ovide a clay-fr ee boring fuid • Stabilize r eactive clay and shale formations • Enhance cor e r ecovery in continuous wir eline coring operations • Pr ovide high cohesiveness to bind excavated sandy soil and gravel • Facilitate the r emoval of drilled spoils fr om augers and incr ease excavation rate • Maximize load transfer for drilled shaft application Advantages • Disperses easily with minimal shear • Ef fcient shale/clay stabilizer and viscosifer • Does not r equir e solids contr ol unit to clean the slurry • Pr omotes stable and gage bor ehole • Results in maximum skin friction and ultimate end bearing capacity for a drilled shaft • Non-fermenting • No petr oleum distillates involved • Br eaks down chemically with bleach (sodium hypochlorite) • NSF/ANSI Standar d 60 certifed Recommended T r eatment Drilling • Add 0.5 to 1 pound of POL Y -BORE dry polymer per 100 gallons of fr esh water (0.6 - 1.2 kg/m 3 ) slowly thr ough the hopper . (See Mix Instructions below) Mix Instructions • 15 to 20 minutes to allow POL Y -BORE to hydrate • Measur e the funnel viscosity of the polymer slurry and adjust accor ding to r equir ed specifcations Notes: • W ater pH between 8.5 – 9.5 • Reduce total har dness of make-up water by adding soda ash (sodium carbonate) at 0.5 to 1 pound per 100 gallons (0.6 - 1.2 kg/m 3 ) of make-up water . www .dsiundergr ound.com
